In the next five lessons Al Friesen proposes creative and effective ways for parents to help blend three important components into a well-functioning family unit. This session demonstrates how parents' overzealous attempts at being “good” to their children by doing many things for the child that the child can and should be doing for themselves - may actually result in negative personal development for the child. This can lead to a weakening in the blending process desired for wholesome family-building.

Al Friesen suggests creative and effective ways as to how parents and other significant adults can learn to build effective listening skills, and how to show empathy. Namely, learning how to graciously walk in your child’s shoes until you clearly recall what it was like to have feelings like what your child or teen is experiencing right now, as you continue to build a healthy family unit.
